GIFs for Odoo by AbdA

Odoo gives you a GIF button in Discuss and nowhere else. This adds one everywhere, without a button.

Type /gif in any Odoo text field and a picker opens at your cursor. Keep typing to refine the search — focus never leaves the field, so nothing interrupts what you were writing. Arrow keys move through the results, Enter inserts, Escape closes and leaves your text exactly as it was.

WHERE IT WORKS

Anywhere Odoo gives you somewhere to type: the chatter on any record, the full composer, Discuss, HTML fields, Knowledge articles, the website editor, and forum posts. In a rich text field you get a real image; in the plain-text Discuss composer you get the GIF's link, which Odoo renders inline exactly as its own GIF button does.

SETUP

Add a free KLIPY API key in the add-on's settings and you are done. A GIPHY key can be used instead if you prefer that library.

HOW IT BEHAVES

It hooks nothing inside Odoo — no patched modules, no injected framework code — so it keeps working across Odoo 17, 18 and 19, on Odoo Online and on self-hosted instances alike. On any page that is not Odoo it does nothing at all.

Inserted GIFs use the compact format, typically around 220 pixels and under half a megabyte, rather than the full-size original which can run to several megabytes in a single message.
