About this extension
Quiet Please - Smart Tab Muter automatically controls browser tab audio based on your physical environment, connected audio output devices, URL rules, and daily schedule. Say goodbye to embarrassing web audio leaks in quiet offices, libraries, or coffee shops when your headphones disconnect or background tabs start playing unexpected sound.
⚙ How It Works
Quiet Please operates continuously in the background using a structured 4-tier decision engine to evaluate every audible browser tab. The extension inspects your active audio output hardware device labels alongside custom URL Whitelist and Mutelist rules. When sound is routed to laptop or desktop speakers, background media tabs are automatically muted. When headphones, AirPods, or headsets are connected, tabs remain unmuted. You can organize rules into environment-specific Context Profiles (such as Office, Home, Cafe, or Default), set automated time-based schedule alarms, or use the Master Silent Mode toggle and per-tab manual overrides directly from the extension popup.
✨ Key Features & Capabilities
Automatic Audio Hardware Detection dynamically mutes tabs on speaker output and unmutes them when headphones or headsets are connected, featuring a 1-click active device label importer for instant setup on Chromium browsers.
URL Whitelist and Mutelist Rules allow matching exact domains or wildcard patterns like YouTube, Google Meet, Spotify, and Zoom, ensuring critical video conference calls stay unmuted while background media sites are silenced. Custom preset catalogs help organize rule keywords for each environment.
Environment Context Profiles let you seamlessly switch between customized presets for Default, Office, Home, and Cafe settings, adjusting muting strictness, trigger priorities, and scope for each location with a quick 1-click switcher modal.
Automated Context Scheduler allows setting background time alarms to automate context profile transitions, automatically activating Office mode at 8:00 AM and Home mode at 5:00 PM.
Predictable 4-Tier Priority Engine guarantees user control through Master Silent Mode, Manual Tab Overrides, Pinned Tab Protection, and configurable rule hierarchy choosing whether URL Rules take precedence over Hardware Rules.
📌 Important Functionality Notes
Please note that Quiet Please strictly controls browser tab mute states (audio mute/unmute toggles). The extension DOES NOT pause, stop, or alter media playback timelines, video streams, or audio elements. Videos and audio players will continue running smoothly in muted state.
Audio Output Hardware Detection relies on Web MediaDevices APIs available in Chromium-based browsers such as Chrome, Edge, Brave, and Opera. On Firefox, URL Rules, Context Profiles, Manual Overrides, Pinned Tab Exclusions, and Master Silent Mode function fully, while hardware device label matching is bypassed due to Firefox MV3 API architecture differences. Pinned tab protection is enabled by default to prevent interrupting pinned background productivity applications.
🌍 Language Localization & Screenshots Note
Quiet Please is fully localized in 9 languages (English, Vietnamese, Japanese, Korean, Simplified & Traditional Chinese, French, German, and Spanish). Please note that promotional screenshots, store media assets, the official website, and external documentation are provided primarily in English.
🔒 Privacy & Security Policy
Quiet Please is built with a strict Zero Data Policy. All tab evaluations, URL matching, and hardware label inspections occur 100% locally on your computer offline inside your browser. No browsing history, page contents, URLs, or audio telemetry ever leave your device. The extension contains zero tracking, zero analytics, zero data collection, and zero remote code execution.
