About this extension
A tab manager built to feel native on Firefox, not ported from Chrome and left with the rough edges. Save every open tab with one click, undo any mistake, and get everything back exactly how you left it, including your native Firefox tab groups.

WHY THIS BUILD IS FIREFOX-SPECIFIC
TheTab's Firefox build uses Firefox's own sidebar (sidebar_action) rather than faking one, and it rebuilds tab groups on restore using the WebExtensions Tab Groups API, which shipped in Firefox 139. That is why TheTab requires Firefox 139 or newer: on anything older, restoring a saved tab group could not recreate the group itself, only the tabs inside it.

HOW SAVING WORKS
Press Ctrl+Shift+1 (Cmd+Shift+1 on Mac) or click the toolbar icon. Your unpinned, ungrouped tabs are saved and closed in one action - pinned tabs and tabs already sitting in a tab group are left alone, so a save never tears apart a workspace you built on purpose. Right-click for more control: save this tab, save the whole window, save tabs to the left or right, save every other tab, save one tab group on its own, or save every window at once.

UNDO
Every delete and every restore drops a toast you can undo instead of redoing the work by hand.

THE SIDEBAR
Open your saved tabs in Firefox's native sidebar without leaving the page you're on (Ctrl+Shift+2 / Cmd+Shift+2). It stays out of the way until you want it.

FIND A TAB IN SECONDS
A search box filters everything you've saved. Type "tt" in the address bar to search without opening the sidebar or the saved-tabs page at all. Settings has its own search box too.

ORGANIZE YOUR WAY
Folders, tags, starred groups, and a multi-line note on any group. Sort saved groups by title, date, or tab count, sort the tabs inside a group by title or URL, or switch back to your own manual drag order whenever you want it.

CLOSED SOMETHING YOU NEEDED?
TheTab keeps a history of closed tabs separate from your saved groups, so you can pull one back well after Firefox's own "recently closed" has forgotten it. On by default, 30-day retention, adjustable from 1 to 365 days.

STATISTICS
A dashboard shows 30 days of activity, a weekly heatmap, the domains you save from most, and an estimate of the memory freed by closing tabs instead of leaving them open. Ten achievements track real milestones, and TheTab tracks your daily streak.

BACKUPS THAT SURVIVE A REINSTALL
Recent groups are mirrored into Firefox's own sync storage automatically, so an uninstall doesn't wipe everything. Turn on scheduled backups to a file in your Downloads folder, or mirror every saved group into a dedicated "TheTab" bookmarks folder kept in sync as you go - both are one-way, and TheTab never touches anything outside the folders it created itself. Optional crash-protection snapshots your open tabs every five minutes.

MIGRATING FROM ONETAB OR SOMETHING ELSE
Import reads TheTab's own JSON backups, OneTab's text export, Session Buddy JSON, and Tab Session Manager JSON. Merge an import with what you already have, or replace it outright - either way a backup is taken first automatically.

DATA COLLECTION, STATED PLAINLY
Every saved tab, note, folder and tag stays on this device - there is no account and no cloud sync. TheTab does send anonymous usage analytics by default: which settings people change, and a once-a-day check that the extension is installed and running, carrying no page content, no URLs, and no tab titles. That is why this listing declares a required "technical and interaction data" collection permission to Mozilla, since this data is collected by default rather than only on request - Firefox surfaces that permission to you directly at install, separately from the extension's own analytics toggle. Turn analytics off any time from Settings, Privacy, "Help improve TheTab," and nothing further is sent, including the daily check.

Free forever, no account, no premium tier, works fully offline. Actively maintained, because a Firefox extension that stops tracking Firefox's own API changes quietly breaks.
