About this extension
You asked a good question three weeks ago and got a great answer. Now you cannot find it.
AI Chat Exporter saves the conversation you are looking at to a clean Markdown file, in one click. It works on ChatGPT and on Claude. There is no account to make, no sign-in, and nothing to configure.
How it works
That is the whole product. It does one thing.
What you get
• Clean Markdown. Headings for each turn, code blocks preserved as code blocks, lists left as lists. It pastes straight into Obsidian, Notion, a wiki, a pull request or a doc without cleanup.
• JSON export as well, if you want the conversation in a structured form for a script.
• Nothing is uploaded. The file is built inside your browser and downloaded to your machine. There is no server on the other end, because there is no other end.
Why people install it
• Keeping the prompt that finally worked, instead of rewriting it from memory.
• Pasting a debugging session into a ticket or a PR description.
• Handing a client the actual reasoning, not a screenshot.
• Backing up work before a chat gets archived, renamed or lost.
Privacy, plainly
The extension requests one permission: activeTab. It reads the conversation on the tab you are on, at the moment you click Export, and nowhere else. No analytics, no tracking, no cookies, no account. It cannot see any other tab.
Works on chatgpt.com, chat.openai.com and claude.ai.
