Bookmark Enhancer by Bakari Mustafa

Bookmark Enhancer is a faster, more organised replacement for Chrome's bookmark manager. It is built for collections that have outgrown folders: thousands of links, half of them untagged, some of them broken.

Everything runs on your device. There are no accounts, no sync servers, and no analytics sent anywhere.

FIND ANYTHING QUICKLY

Search filters as you type, across titles, URLs, and tags. Narrow results by folder, tag, or date, and save the searches you repeat.

Press Ctrl+K (Cmd+K on Mac) to open the command palette and jump straight to any bookmark or folder. Arrow keys move through the list, Enter opens, Shift+Enter opens in a background tab, and Ctrl+C copies a URL. Press / to jump to the search box from anywhere.

ORGANISE WITHOUT THE BUSYWORK

Smart rules file new bookmarks automatically, by domain, keyword, or pattern.

Add colour-coded tags for the categories folders cannot express, and drag bookmarks between folders to rearrange them.

If your browser supports Chrome's built-in AI, Bookmark Enhancer can suggest tags for untagged bookmarks using the on-device Gemini Nano model. Suggestions are always shown for review before anything is applied, and no bookmark data leaves your machine. Where built-in AI is unavailable, the feature simply stays switched off.

EDIT IN BULK

Select many bookmarks at once to tag, move, export, or delete them together. Deleting shows an Undo option for a few seconds, so a mistaken click is not permanent.

CLEAN UP WHAT HAS PILED UP

Check links to find ones that no longer resolve, detect duplicates, and archive bookmarks you have not touched in a long time. A health score summarises how much of the collection is still reachable.

UNDERSTAND YOUR COLLECTION

The analytics view describes your bookmarks, not your browsing. It shows how many bookmarks you have, which domains and categories dominate, how many are untagged or stale, when you added them over the past year, and which folders are growing.

To be clear about what this is not: Bookmark Enhancer does not track browsing history, time spent on sites, or which pages you visit. It only reads your bookmarks.

BUILT FOR EVERYDAY USE

Save the current page, a link, or selected text from the right-click menu, choosing the destination folder without leaving the page.

Switch between a dense list and a card grid. Collapse the sidebar to an icon rail with Ctrl+B when you want more room. Open the whole manager in a full browser tab when the popup feels cramped. Dark mode follows your system setting or can be pinned either way.

PRIVACY

Your bookmarks, tags, settings, saved searches, and analytics are stored locally using Chrome's storage, and are never uploaded. There is no account, no telemetry, and no advertising.

One exception worth stating plainly: site icons are loaded from Google's public favicon service, which means the domain of a bookmark is sent to Google when its icon is displayed. No titles, URLs, tags, or personal data are included. If you would rather avoid this, favicons can be turned off in settings.

Permissions and why each is needed:
- Bookmarks: read and edit your bookmarks. This is the core function.
- Tabs: read the current tab's title and URL when you save the page you are on.
- Storage: keep your tags, settings, and saved searches on this device.
- Context menus: add the right-click "Add to Bookmarks" entries.
- Notifications: confirm background actions such as a completed link check.

Bookmark Enhancer does not request access to your browsing history or to the content of the pages you visit.

WHO IT IS FOR

Researchers and writers keeping large reference libraries in order. Students collecting course material across a term. Anyone whose bookmark bar stopped being useful somewhere around the thousandth link.

Version 2.9 is a substantial rebuild: a new interface, keyboard navigation and command palette, on-device AI tagging, faster rendering for very large folders, and a reduced permission set.
